The acquisition of negation in Turkish and English
CompleteLinguistics research · Class project
Cross-linguistic corpus study comparing how Turkish- and English-speaking toddlers learn to express negation, using naturalistic speech data (CHILDES) and the CLAN analysis software. Turkish children reach for grammatically complex negation forms earlier than expected; English-speaking kids lean on the standalone word “no” before shifting to contractions like don't and can't.
